The original Clear in Darkness clan was formed initially by PapaSmurf (Stefan) and DemonHunter back in November 2008 as a Call of Duty dedicated clan. DemonHunter drifted into the unknown shortly after and DanBalls (Dan) stepped in to take his place later that winter focusing mainly on COD 4. Tons of gamers came and went during this time.

Smurf went on a long hiatus the summer of 2009, leaving Dan and Brandon (now known as xtRaQt) to keep the clan running. Again many came and went during that summer & fall with the interest in COD 4 still strong although everyone was excited about the upcoming release of COD 6 (Modern Warfare 2). CiD entered in many different COD 4 ladder gaming competitions including TWL Promod matches as well as others.

With the release of the Steam Dedicated COD 6 the interest in COD 4 and Clan Based gaming dwindled. Smurf returned during this time and the three admins decided to move to other games including Left for Dead 2 & Counter Strike : Source - keeping the clan alive. By Spring 2010, the hope of clan-based COD gaming looked less promising everyday so CiD decided to bring itself into a hiatus until the COD PC gaming world was given life again.

In December 2010, with the arrival of COD 7 (Black Ops) and the availability of semi-dedicated servers, Smurf and Balls decided to bring CiD out of its slumber. Tons of new exceptional gamers arrived during the year of 2011 and with the release of Battlefield 3 and MW3 the numbers grew rapidly. Chill, derived, loyal, steady, and wild at the same time, these gamers brought life to a clan founded on good times and FPS games.

Some of these gamers were born leaders and moved up in the clan to take on leadership roles and eventually take on the responsibility of leading CiD including Five, Bear, Pox, Spaulding, Blart, Berto, Pinky, Dawg, and Rusty. This is of course excluding the many pro clan members admining the servers day after day, night after night.

Mid 2012, Balls took to managing the technical background side of the clan as Pinky & BearForce stepped up to lead the CiD Team through 2012 into 2013. The clan dedication to COD stood out during this time ranking CiD among the all time longest-lasting and most active Black Ops clans. Early 2013, BearForce decided he would step down for a little while and passed the torch onto Five, leaving Five and Pinky to lead CiD through the rest of 2013 and beyond....

For the next 7 years, Pinky succeeded in solidifying both Insurgency and Black Ops 1 as a cornerstone of CiD that you still see today. Because of this, Black Ops and Insurgency were some of most active vessels of the CiD community for the entire decade - from 2010 until 2020 - and continue to be with no end in sight, and remains a clan past time.

During this period, in 2016, with the release of Player Unknown Battlegrounds and Rainbow Six, the era of Lobby Clans started, and the focus on server based gaming declined, while lobby based grew. Five stepped up and committed to undertake the extremely difficult task of merging the two worlds (old and new). Through that commitment and with much clan progression, CiD found a silver lining in the new Voice and Social network called Discord. This gave new ways to interact and gave CiD a solid hub to call their home - where new friends could be made.

With many new players coming and some going, Five and Pinky succeeded in helping CiD survive the changing age. In 2020, with the CiD server base still as solid as possible, Pinky stepped down to pass the torch to another. Mad Hatter joined Five as the two Leaders of one of the most longest lasting clans, and to bring it into the next decade and beyond.

This is the CiD you see today. We hope you'll play a major part in the next chapter....
